Apple Crumble Recipe
Our 6 year old has been asking for apple pie for the past few days so today I decided to honour her wishes (kinda) by making an apple crumble.
Apple Crumbles are usually a winter dessert since its served warm with custard, but it is totally enjoyable any time of the year. Oh and Apple Crumble is way quicker and easier than making actual pie dough, rolling it out etc...Will save that one for another day!
It is crazy simple to make. You can make it dairy free and gluten free and even white sugar free. Feel free to use other fruit, peaches, pears also make fab crumbles!
Apple Crumble
Fruit Base:
1 x 770g tin sliced apples - (you could also use 4 fresh apples but you will need to add 1/4 cup of water and increase your cooking time)
1 tablespoon brown or coconut sugar
1/2 tsp mixed Spice
Crumble Topping:
1 cup wholewheat flour (or your favourite GF flour)
1/2 cup brown or coconut sugar
1tsp cinnamon
1 cup desiccated coconut
75g Olivani (or any other dairy free spread)
- Preheat oven to 180°C.
- Place apples in a pie dish, sprinkle with brown sugar and mixed spice.
- In a food processor or stand mixer, mix topping ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Sprinkle crumble topping over the fruit, bake for 30-35 minutes until topping is firm and lightly golden brown.
- Serve warm with dairy free custard.
