Tempeh BLAT

Vegan BLT sandwich

BLAT, yes thats bacon (vegan of course), lettuce, avocado and tomato!

We do love a good BLAT, and we do love making tempeh bacon, and we used Lupin Tempeh from Tempeh Deli to make this faux bacon aka 'facon'.

We first slice the tempeh thinly, then marinated it in some soy sauce, smoked paprika and maple syrup. Pop it into a sealable container and leave to marinate while you prep your veg and buns. Slice your ciabatta buns and spread some vegan mayo or aioli on the one side, and some basil pesto on the other side. Then slice your avo and tomato, wash your lettuce and add to your bun. Then heat your pan and add a smidge of oil, add in the tempeh slices and fry for a few minutes on each side until crispy. Add tempeh bacon to your bun and, well, you know what to do...

 

Ingredients:

    • 1 tsp maple syrup
    • 1 tsp smoked paprika
    • 1 TBs soy sauce
    • oil to fry
    • 1 package of tempeh
    • 1 avocado
    • 1 tomato
    • 1 head of lettuce (or bagged lettuce)
    • 1 jar of plant-based pesto
    • vegan mayo or aioli
    • ciabatta buns
