Turmeric Chai Latté

Turmeric lattés and matcha lattés are all the rage nowadays. Warming, sweet and spicy, and with many added health benefits than your regular cup of joe. Turmeric contains the chemical curcumin which is said to decrease swelling (inflammation) in the body. Because of this, turmeric may be beneficial for treating conditions that involve inflammation, such as arthritis, IBS, skin conditions and high cholesterol, to name but a few... Recently, my newsfeed has been awash with all the talk on tumeric, 'golden milk' drinks, so I knew it was time to try it out! I used dry ingredients as most people have these spices on hand, (I don't always have fresh turmeric or ginger root but if you do, use them!). Here is my...

Stewed Dried Fruit on Porridge

I'm a real fruit bat and love a sweet treat most days. So what better way to start your day than with a big, warming bowl of oat porridge, topped with sweet, soft dried fruit!? This is a breakfast I learnt from my mom, she used to make this for us as kids and it was always such a treat. So of course I have started making this for myself and my kids as lets face it, Weetbix gets old and its also nice to have something warm cooking away on the stove first thing in the morning.  What I do is make a big batch of the stewed fruit on a Sunday ready for the rest of the week,...

GF Chocolate Chip Oat Cookies

Ok people, I have to apologise, I feel bad that I didn't post this at the beginning of Junk-Free June as these are the cookies that would have got you through the month with no cheating! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! GF Chocolate Chip Oat Cookies 1 cup dates, (soaked for 10 minutes in hot water and then drained) 1 ripe banana 2 TBs peanut butter 3/4 cup oat flour (you can make this...

Raw Lemon and Coconut Balls

Its June already, crazy right?! Where has the year gone? One thing that I do look forward to at this time of year is the abundance of citrus fruit. Lemons are starting to fruit on the trees in people's back yards and its time to get going with some delicious lemony baking, or un-baking in the case of these raw lemon bliss balls I rustled up this morning. Truth be told, I was going to make a lemon loaf smothered in icing sugar but I decided on a slightly healthier version of a lemon loaf, using cashew nuts and keeping it gluten free and raw. I can assure you that they don't disappoint and are totally guilt free too, woohoo!...

Mint Choc Bliss Balls

If you are looking for a quick and unbelievably delicious treat thats gluten and sugar free (and of course dairy-free!), then this is your recipe for the week! Its full of protein too and if you like chocolate and mint then what are you waiting for!? You can omit the protein powder (or replace it with coconut or almond flour) but I find that it helps to bind the bliss balls and this new protein powder from Ceres Organics is really good, no nasty after-taste! Mint Choc Bliss Balls 1/2 cup raw cashews 1/2 cup raw almonds 1/2 cup shredded coconut (plus another 1/2 cup for rolling in) 1 cup dates, soaked in hot water for 10 mins, and well...
